Do you remember the last time your heart truly leapt?
That moment in the movie theater when tears unexpectedly welled up. When your heart fluttered at your favorite artist’s new release. That night you couldn’t sleep because you were too excited about an upcoming trip…
It’s these small experiences that remind us of the joy of being alive.
But does this sound familiar?
As I grow older, I get caught up in schedules and responsibilities, stuck in the “same old routine” day after day. Before I know it, those moments that stir my heart becomes fewer and further between.
But here’s the good news:
In fact, even on the most ordinary days, countless opportunities to move our hearts are scattered all around us. When we cherish these moments, they have the power to transform our entire lives.
Why Does “Moving Your Heart” Transform Your Life?

When our hearts are moved, energy is generated within us.
“I want to try that!” “I want to learn more!“
These emotions become the driving force behind our actions—the fuel that propels our lives forward.
On the other hand, when we go through our days feeling nothing, time simply passes us by—and our world never expands.
It’s these small stirrings of the heart that act as switches, dramatically changing the course of our lives.
“Moving your heart moves your life.”
Once you understand this truth, all that remains is to seize those opportunities.
Let me share three stories from my own life that illustrate this.
[Real Stories] Three Moments When Small Sparks Changed My Life
Looking back on my life, I can say with certainty that everything began with small sparks of excitement. Those sparks — those little stirrings of the heart — were really just moments of curiosity.
One person who deeply influenced me was a passionate teacher from my student days — my mentor. There’s one phrase he taught me that has stayed with me ever since:
“Give it a shot — you won’t shatter.“
In Japan, we have a saying about going all in, but he flipped it. He taught me that even if I try and fail, I won’t break.
With that mindset, I’ve always followed whatever sparked my curiosity. After all, at the end of life, we tend to regret the things we didn’t do more than the ones we did.
So doesn’t it make sense to take action first, rather than hesitate?
Story 1: How My Interest in English Led to My Dream of Becoming a Flight Attendant

When I was in elementary school, I became genuinely interested in learning English—it just seemed so fun!
As I continued, I gradually got better at it, and I started thinking, “I want a job where I can use English and travel around the world!” That’s when the dream of becoming an international flight attendant naturally took shape.
Throughout my student years, I didn’t set out to “work hard to become a flight attendant.” Instead, I simply pursued things that interested me. This included participating in multiple clubs, studying abroad, helping produce a radio show, and more.
I just followed whatever sparked that feeling: “That looks fun! I want to try that!”
Along the way, I naturally built up experience, and eventually landed my dream job as a flight attendant. What’s more, when I received an offer from a foreign airline, I immediately achieved my dream of “flying around the world”—something that might have taken years with a domestic carrier.
Story 2: How Loving to Eat Led Me to Become a Skilled Cook

Influenced by my mother, who was an excellent cook, I’ve always loved eating. At first, I helped with cooking just to sneak tastes, but the more I helped, the more my interest deepened.
After I started living alone, cooking naturally became a habit. I found myself surrounded by friends who loved cooking too, and we’d spend hours experimenting in the kitchen together.
And while I love cooking at home, I’m equally passionate about discovering great restaurants. Whenever I taste something delicious, I think, “I want to try making this myself!“—and that’s how my repertoire keeps growing.
Today, I find just as much joy in cooking as I do in eating.
Story 3: How Following My Interests Opened Doors to New Worlds

“It’s hard to make friends as an adult“—we hear this all the time, but I’ve discovered this isn’t necessarily true.
While my friends in my student years were people in my immediate circle, as an adult, I’ve grown close with people of all ages and backgrounds.
The catalyst? Participating in hobbies and seminars that genuinely interested me.
I hit it off with people who shared my passions, and through them, a whole network of new connections kept emerging. Before I knew it, my world had expanded in ways I never imagined.
All of this began with small sparks—those moments when I thought, “That’s kind of interesting!” or “That looks fun!“
Whenever something sparked my curiosity, even slightly, I didn’t overthink it—I just took action. By following this simple rule, I kept discovering new sides of myself.
Three Steps to Move Your Heart
So how do you create more of these heart-moving moments? Let me share three specific steps.
1. Keep Your Antenna Up for Things That Interest You

The first step to moving your heart is to catch those small sparks of curiosity.
New encounters and experiences always come suddenly. But if you’re not paying attention, you’ll miss the opportunities right in front of you.
Are you overlooking these everyday signals?
- The title of the book your neighbor is reading on the train
- A poster that catches your eye on a street corner
- A casual comment from a friend
- A post that pops up on social media
If something makes you think “That’s kind of interesting,” even for just a moment, don’t ignore that signal—jot it down and dig a little deeper.
This small spark of curiosity is what opens the door to your next adventure.
2. Focus on “Why You Can” Instead of “Why You Can’t”

Even when your heart is moved, do you catch yourself making these excuses?
“But I don’t have time…” “What if I have to go alone…” “It costs too much…”
But while we’re making these excuses, opportunities to transform our lives slip away.
What if you flipped your thinking 180 degrees?
- I don’t have time. → 〇 Even 15 minutes here and there can add up!
- I’d be nervous going alone.→ 〇 It’s a chance to enjoy complete freedom at my own pace!
- It’s out of my comfort zone. → 〇 That’s exactly where growth happens!
When you develop the habit of focusing on “reasons why you can,” the barriers to action drop dramatically.
And when you take that first step, a powerful cycle begins:
Interest → Action → Discovery → New Possibilities
Like small ripples spreading across a lake’s surface, your life quietly but surely begins to transform.
3. Just Take Action—Even If It’s Small

The instant you decide “I’ll give it a try” and take that first step, your entire perspective starts to change.
New people, new insights, new feelings.
They may feel like small additions to your daily routine, but they’re actually setting your future in motion.
Of course, I’ve experienced plenty of trial and error—and failures—along the way. Yet I’ve learned this: it’s better to take the leap than to live with the regret of “I should have tried.“
Taking that first step requires the most courage.
Yet the world waiting beyond that first step is richer and more rewarding than you can imagine.
